the power in being the tortoise
Are you someone that likes being on the go? Struggles to sit still & always has to be doing something? Well same.
Please know that it’s not sustainable & the reason you feel that way, is because your nervous system is always running.
If you’re always on, you will pay for that in some way, at some point.
I believe that burnout is the main reason that I get ill. From my autoimmune disease to a common cold & everything inbetween, my system doesn’t manage well when I keep running until I’m empty.
The thing is, running without your feet touching the ground feels DAMN good at the time. I get a new idea, a new project or mission & I get really fcking excited. I feel on top of the world. Like I’ve cracked the system. It’s like I’m running on a V8 engine powering down the motorway. Everything is all systems go, working like a dream & I’m winning.
Sure I can get shit done when I’m like that. I can go far. But if I don’t stop to refuel or for a pitstop, then I’m going to be stuck in the middle of nowhere before long with an empty tank, worn out tires & ruined brake pads. It’s going to take me a long time to recover from that.
So I’ve had to learn to put back what I take out, as I go. Take it steady without over-extending, get enough sleep, eat good whole foods & add in nurturing yoga practices, instead of energising ones.
The highs are lows are a tough cycle to get out of, because let’s be honest - they’re a hell of a lot of fun! But running steady gets me further & allows me to achieve more.
